Testing ph of pool water.
Another word for basic is alkaline.
Pool water ph is best when kept in the range of 7 2 to 7 8.
Test strips are the easiest way to test your pool ph level.
Most every test strip includes a ph test.
Ph and total alkalinity are not the same but can be influenced by each other.
A value of 7 to 14 is considered basic with 14 being the greatest base activity.
However this is not to be confused with total alkalinity.
Remove a ph test strip and close the test strip container to prevent any unwanted water or moist air to contaminate.
For example the color of your test strip might show the yellow of a banana.
For test kits take your water sample from 12 to 18 inches below the surface after the circulation system has been on for an hour.
If your pool has a salt system the salt level should also be checked.
We recommend using test strips that also include a cyanuric acid test to conveniently ensure there is not too much stabilizer in your pool or hot tub.
Determine how many points you need to raise the ph.
Using the ph scale which ranges from 1 0 14 0 we will want to get our water in the ideal range of 7 4 7 6.
According to your product this means the ph level is 7 2.
The ideal ph level for a pool is between 7 4 and 7 8.
Anything with a ph level below 7 0 represents an acidic condition low ph while a ph level above 7 0 represents an alkaline condition high ph.
